On How to Stop Cliff Lee in a Bar Fight: ‘You'd Have to Kill Him'

Share

Carl Willis, his coach at Cleveland, once said if he was
ever in a barfight, he’d want Lee on his side because “you’d have to
kill him” tostop him.

That's my favorite line from an interesting New York Times Magazine profile on the Phillies four aces
written by Pat Jordan. I say "interesting" because the author appears
out to try and prove that none of the Phillies big four are great
pitchers. Even in his dealings with the pitchers down in Clearwater, the
author includes strange anecdotes about their personalities as if to
prove a point that they are not great players, at least certainly not
great when compared to pitchers of a bygone era.

What were your thoughts on Jordan's take on Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Roy Oswalt, and Cole Hamels?
