Once More Unto the Breach

The Battle for Nothing has begun, with the Eagles playing host to the Bills down at the Linc today. With neither team headed to the post-season, the game's only purpose is pride (and gambling I guess). An 8-8 campaign for Reid's boys is an awful showing, but at least in the history books, it's a far cry better than 7-9.

The game also has meaning in that it will be the last for several Eagles. We know Jevon Kearse is all but gone, having made more millions than sacks in a disappointing tenure. LJ Smith won't be missed, as Brent Celek is looking better with every minute he's on the field. Darren Howard will likely join the ranks of former Birds, and you can feel free to speculate as to who else you think is gone in the comments. It's unlikely we'll see Kevin Kolb take a snap today, and I think rightfully so. What will Reid and Co. learn about him in a few drives that they don't already know? His presence on the field would only serve to stir controversy in a season marred by it. He'll have his day, but there's no need to rush it.

The Eagles are playing their best football of the season right now, so sit back and enjoy your team's last game, even if it has no real "meaning." What choice do we have?

Update: Big Jon Runyan took a knee to the head and is out with a concussion. The Revolving Door of Justice takes his spot.
