Phillies Don't Have Much Cash to Spend

Share

The Phillies aren't necessarily being cheap this off season, they just don't really have all that much cash freed up to throw at free agents.  They did give J.C. Romero a rather nice deal.  Adam Eaton, Wes Helms, and The Bat aren't helping things with their inflated salaries.

The Zo Zone has a great post today breaking down what the Phillies have alloted to certain players and who they have a chance at landing.  In reality, Aaron Rowand doesn't look like he'll be back.  TZ takes a look at the pitching that may be possible.

Like I wrote in today's paper, here are some names that might fit for
the Phillies in the starting pitching market: Japanese righthander Hiroki Kuroda, Kris Benson, Matt Clement, Livan Hernandez, Tom Glavine, Mark Prior, Jason Jennings, Joe Kennedy and Shawn Chacon.

Kuroda is the most intriguing to me due to the recent successes of Japanese pitchers like Dice-K in Boston.  Plus, if the Phils bring in a big name Japanese player, they could maybe get some revenue increases from little Japanese kids buying Phillies jerseys! Nobody else on that list really jumps out at me.  Does Glavine have anything left?  Does Mark Prior still have an arm on his shoulder?
