Phillies Fever Goes National

I love Vegas as much as the next guy, but it was pretty tough to miss one of the most exciting homestands of my generation. Fortunately there was an ESPN game, and THErooms at THEhotel at Mandalay Bay have giant HD plasmas, so I got to catch a few innings there before heading out. What was really tough was yesterday, when I was leaving the hotel in a Phils cap, people kept yelling out "Go Phils" etc. A Red Sawx fan with a dyed mohawk said,"Hell yeah man, I don't care about the Phillies, but I hate the f*cking Mets." I assume this was educational for the 5-year-old girl and her parents on the elevator. At the airport it was even better—lots of Phillies fans on the move and hollering out to each other. I'm used to it with the Eagles, so it was great to see and hear the vocal support for the Phightens.

We got us a huge game today in South Philly. Adam Eaton takes on Matt Chico, and the place is gonna go off. The goddamn Mets are up early in their game, so there's no room for mistakes. From everything I've heard, the effort has been effusive down the stretch, and the players are really feeding off the frenzy in the stands. Keep it going today and tomorrow, and we could have our first division title since '93.

Some good reading over at Meech's Bugs & Cranks villa to take you into the 3:55 start... Record breaker and MVP candidate Jimmy Rollins, the Chokejob Mets, and Eaton's redemption song.
