Phils in Flushing: Halladay vs. Mejia

Share

The Phillies are up the Jersey Turnpike for a weekend set with the New York Mets who were hit with the bad news today that Johan Santana will be lost for the season. If he were healthy, he'd likely face both the Phillies and Braves one time apiece, so this should have a minimal effect on the division race.

But that isn't the only bad news for the Mets today as they also have to face Roy Halladay (17-10, 2.36) while New York goes with Jenrry Mejia (0-3, 3.68) who will make his second start of the season. On the year, Doc is 3-0 against the Mets with a 1.88 ERA while Mejia has worked two scoreless innings of relief work against the Fightins'.

Rich Dubee and Charlie Manuel also said today that Kyle Kendrick will be the Phillies starter in Saturday's game. Vance Worley had pitched well enough in his spot start on Monday that many thought he would make a decent option to step in tomorrow, but Charlie and Dubs opted not to change things up.

The Braves continue their series with the Cardinals while the Giants face the Padres this weekend for those scoreboard watching.

First pitch from Flushing is scheduled for 7:10 this evening. Yes, that's an image of Snooki as a wee little Mets fan.
