Phils Lack Finishing Move, Mench Can't Get His Head in the Game

Share

It's just the Phillies luck that the first time they take three in a row against an opponent, it's in a four-game series. Despite a decent day from Freddy Garcia, another in a string of solid starts for Phillies pitching, they dropped the fourth game of the series, 3-2. Pat Burrell jacked one in the 2nd and came damn close in the bottom of the 9th, a hit that was ruled a double despite protests by Uncle Charlie and the fans near where the ball landed. If it had been two inches deeper (or the Phillies hadn't moved the wall out last year)* it would have been the first blown save of the season for Brewers closer Francisco Cordero.

It was still an impressive series in the middle of a solid homestand, but the Phillies are back under .500 once again. The Blue Jays have won 4 of their last 5 games but are definitely a beatable team at 18-22.

Hometown Pride: Wilmington native and Eagles season ticket holder Kevin Mench showed his love for Philadelphia sports by going 0 for the series at CBP. I like Mench, solely because he's an Eagles fan, so I am a little sorry to hear that the 17 people he brought out didn't get to see him get a hit. Not-so-little known Mench fact: he has the largest head in the majors. Yep, bigger than Placido Polanco.
