Phils Take Series Win Behind Joe Blanton's Eight Strong and the Longball

Sarge Matthews had to check with the local Delaware Valley Cadillac dealer about what kind of fleet they could outfit the Phillies with on Sunday afternoon as Utley, Howard, Rollins, and Ibanez all went deep this afternoon. Chase's two-run blast in the third had the Phillies up 3-1 and that put them ahead for good with Joe Blanton dealing to the tune of 8.0 innings, 7 hits, 2 earned, and 6 Ks. Brad Lidge came in to get some work in a scoreless ninth.

Ryan Howard's bomb in the fifth was only a few feet away from sailing over the batter's eye in centerfield. It was so far that Sarge got confused as to what kind of Caddy the Big Guy should be cruisin' in. He later clarified that Howard would be cruisin' in a bigger Eldorado while Jimmy's blast fit him for a Coupe De Ville. Sarge never specificed what Raul and Chase would be driving but Ibanez seems like an STS type while Utley needs a hybrid.

Great Sunday for baseball in South Philly with the Phillies winning by a final of 9-2. The Roy Halladay/Cliff Lee/Stand Pat watch rolls on.
