Phils Trade Michael Bourn For Brad Lidge

ESPN:

The Phillies sent outfielder Michael Bourn, pitcher Geoff Geary and minor leaguer Mike Costanzo to Houston, and received infielder Eric Bruntlett in addition to Lidge.

Brad Lidge had 19 saves last season but blew 8 as well.  He's been a bit of a head case for the Astros and perhaps a change of scenery will do him well. He's certainly an upgrade over what the Phils currently have in the pen. (Myers aside)

After some thought, I think Brad Lidge is much like Tom Gordon in his tendencies to blow up a game.  Basically, if Lidge is coming in to close a game at Citizens Bank Park, we're all going to be holding our breath.

According to the ESPN article, the Phillies intend to move Brett Myers back to the starting rotation.  Personally, I hope they brought in Lidge to be the 8th inning guy and keep Myers as the closer.  If they bring back J.C. Romero along with Madson and Gordon, you start to have a decent little pen.

Bourn will likely be missed in Philadelphia.  While he never got a
whole lot of time to play for the Phillies, his speed was always
something to get excited about on the base paths.

Outfield implications: we can hope that this means Gillick is hopeful in re-signing Aaron Rowand.
