Phils Waste No Time, Sign Seanez to Bolster Bullpen

After Tom Gordon's ERA ballooned to 135.00 when he gave up 5 runs in a third of the 9th inning yesterday, Pat Gillick moved swiftly to bring in reinforcements. The LA Times reports that the Phillies have signed right-hander Rudy Seanez, who was released by the Dodgers last week, and the reliever will be activated before tomorrow night's game with the Nats. An experienced (old) and well-traveled reliever who still has a live arm, Seanez is the kind of pitcher the Phillies bullpen needed, although the unit is still far from dependable.

In 76 innings last season, Seanez was 6-3 with a save, 73 Ks, and a 3.79 ERA. [Via Beerleaguer]
