With Brad Lidge now set to at least start the season as the Phillies' closer, Todd Zolecki is reporting that a deal is near to retain lefty J.C. Romero, who was a big part of the team's late-season push.
An announcement could come as early as today. If an agreement is
reached and Romero returns to the Phillies' bullpen, the back end of
the bullpen next season would include Lidge, Romero, Tom Gordon and Ryan Madson.
Many of us worried that his resurgence would drive his price a little too high to keep him here, so it's good to know one of the stronger components of a spotty bullpen will likely be back.
