Scottie Upside

Since joining the Flyers in the Peter Forsberg trade, Scottie Upshall has put together some impressive shifts, scoring 2 goals and 1 assist in 2 games. The #6 overall pick in 2002, Upshall was essentially a disappointment in Nashville, enduring some injury problems while losing PT on a team that overachieved while he was still finding his way.

Although it’s too early to get excited, it’s good to see some spark from a player of whom little was expected. Perhaps this was just the scenario he needed to come out of his shell. A somewhat rare left-handed shot on the right side, there’s potential for the young line of Carter, Calder, and Upshaw to get something started, but with the way the rest of this team is playing, it’ll take a lot more than that. For those of you who didn’t watch the game on VS Monday night (ie, all of you), this team looked like chunky orange vomit on cool white ice, especially the second half of the game: streaky, sloppy, unstructured—something you can barely stand to look at. There is truly very little they are doing consistently well this year.

Update on Sunday's post: There's at least a decent chance that Mike Knuble will play a few games at the end of the season, reports Comcast SportsNet.
