Series Between Teams Who Both Have First Basemen Starts Tonight

The Phillies kick off a four game set at home tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals, a team many figure to be a contender in the NL into the postseason. The Cardinals will throw out young lefty Jamie Garcia who has pitched well in his first four starts this season, allowing only 3 earned runs. Joe Blanton will take the hill for the first time this season for the Phils and will look to add some length to their rotation. Don't expect Blanton to jump in and eat innings right off the bat, but a solid outing tonight in which Blanton can give the bats a chance would be acceptable.

Notes: Bad news from the 'pen. Ryan Madson will need surgery on his toe. Timetable on his return is TBD.

First pitch scheduled for 7:05 from CBP. It's back to Sarge and Wheels tonight after a two game stretch in the national spotlight.
