The Phillies Notched 3 Hits in Eleven Innings (Of Course They Lost)

There were plenty of bats at Citizens Bank Park tonight but the Phillies apparently couldn't figure out how to use them.

A quality start from Cole Hamels was wasted as the bats could only muster a total of three hits over eleven innings. One of the lone bright spots, a Ryan Howard triple that tied the game in the seventh, set the table for three straight at bats that summarized the Phillies frustrations on the night. Howard found himself on third with no outs, and, as we all saw, the Phillies couldn't get him across the plate.

Charlie Manuel was asked about Howard, the go-ahead run, being stranded 90 feet from home. "You gotta score there. When you got a man on third, nobody out, you gotta score. Period. First inning, second inning, third inning, fourth inning. Doesn't matter. Ninth inning, fifteenth inning, twentieth inning. Doesn't matter... you gotta score," Manuel said.

And the Phillies did not.

The Braves take back the one game in the standings the Phillies had taken from them on Monday. Gotta fight for the series victory tomorrow.
