Watching Paul Byrd put together a 2-0 post-season record with a 3.60 ERA for the Indians this month, we all remember the All-Star season he put in for the Phillies in 1999. With 15 high-ERA wins in 2007, Byrd looked poised to get a raise in the free agent market this off-season.
In 2003, Tommy John surgery put Byrd's career on pause, but he came back to pitch for the Braves, Angels, and the Tribe. However, his comeback apparently included a visit to the pharmacy in Florida, as reports have surfaced that he purchased nearly $25,000 in HGH between 2002 and 2005 (Royals-Angels).
If the Indians beat the Red Sox in game 7 tonight, I'm sure we'll hear plenty about this in the World Series coverage. Niles was unavailable for comment.
