We Soldier On: Flyers Welcome Old Friends, the Habs

Share

Surreal day in Philly sports so far. The great feeling we all got after hearing Adam Eaton had been cut was muddied by the somewhat predictable news that Glen Metropolit and Ossi Vaananen were claimed off of waivers, and then the levee broke.

We're still awaiting as many final confirmations as we can get on Dawkins signing with Denver, but the news of a 2-year deal is also being discussed by John Clayton on SportsCenter, Fox's local web site (nice pic!), and other media outlets by the minute, so our hopes that the initial report was false are waning. If Dawk ends up elsewhere, we'll have plenty to unhappily address here over the coming weeks. We'll keep you posted on any breaking news, either confirming or denying word of Dawk's imminent departure.

But we also have our other teams to distract us focus on, and the Flyers have a huge game tonight.

I don't know if I can focus. We're only hearing confirmations. No denials or retractions. But nothing from the Broncos or Eagles. Hope.

The Canadiens, an increasingly bitter rival of the Flyers after last year's playoff battle, are in town. After a fast start, the Habs fell from the Eastern Conference sky alongside the Rangers. They're just four points behind the Flyers at the moment though, and they've won their last two, so we should be in for a good tilt tonight.

I can barely put together a complete Flyers sentence right now. Seeing Brian Dawkins in another uniform is going to kill me. Mort saying Lito may be traded to the Jets. No details.

The Flyers may look a little depleted tonight. Their talented fourth line center is now a member of the team they're playing, ironically enough. Their top defender is still out, although they've rallied to play well without him for the past two games. Danny Briere can't return yet because they need the spot for Lasse Kukkonen, who is filling in for Kimmo.

Sorry. I'm done. See you in the comments or at the bar. Praise be to Weapon X.
