  1. Claude Giroux’s Mustache: Yay or Nay?

    Nov 18, 2011, 10:57 AM EDT

When the facial hair reminds you in any way of San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson, well, we don’t know if we’re a fan. That’s the vibe we got last night when we saw Claude Giroux’s dyed ‘stache. G gets incredibly high marks for effort, but it doesn’t appear to be a look he can pull off real well.

  2. Fran Dunphy Shaves his Mustache in Honor of Dionte Christmas Now with Video

    Oct 6, 2011, 1:48 PM EDT

With only the assistance of a white towel, a mug of hot water and a small make-up mirror, the Temple’s mens basketball coach took a disposable razor to his legendary lip fur before a crowd of on-lookers in the basement of the Liacouras Center Thursday morning.

  3. Jayson Werth’s Beard is Impressed with Cliff Lee’s Scruff

    Jul 25, 2011, 2:54 PM EDT

Before things went south for Cliff, the legendary Twitter account of Jayson Werth’s Beard pointed out just how scraggly Lee’s facial hair has gotten.

  4. What Did the Bearded Closer Say to the Starting Pitchers?

    Jul 12, 2011, 3:46 AM EDT

Photo of Brian Wilson, Tim Lincecum, and Cliff Lee from Monday night’s Home Run Derby in Arizona.

  5. Mike Vick Now Among Bearded Philly-Athletes Elite

    May 14, 2011, 6:47 PM EDT

Many of the Eagles got together over the weekend in support of the DeSean Jackson foundation’s efforts in the fight against pancreatic cancer. Aside from supporting their teammate and a great cause, much of the talk revolved around informal team workouts to be held at a yet-to-be-determined location. Mike Vick spoke to reporters about these…

  6. Phillies All Mustache Team

    May 12, 2011, 10:08 AM EDT

    Incy

I know what you may be thinking, “Where’s Jayson Werth?” Well, the criteria Philly Sports History came up with was for mustaches, not beards. But, Johnny Goodtimes did fine work searching out the best ‘staches in Phillies history and setting them to obscure tunes.

  7. Interview with Mike Schmidt: On Booing, Pat Jordan, Mustaches, and Wine Pairings

    Apr 20, 2011, 1:51 PM EDT

We had the chance to speak with Phillies Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt for ten minutes this morning as part of Michael Jack’s starring in a Field of Dreams-esque commercial by the official soft drinking sponsor of MLB, Pepsi Max. We only touched on soda briefly, and not in anyway Schmidty was expecting,…

  8. Typically, Don’t Trust Men With Neckbeards for Investment Advice

    Feb 16, 2011, 2:10 PM EDT

The Eagles decided yesterday to place a transition tag on longtime kicker David Akers. This was a bit of a surprising move to most observers, mostly because the Eagles very rarely use the transition tag, and also because, well… Akers is a kicker. His agent wasn’t thrilled about the move and still hopes that the…

  9. WATN: Why Yes, That is Sal Fasano with a Lugnuts Jersey On

    Aug 18, 2010, 3:47 PM EDT

It’s been a while since we checked in on The700Level favorite Sal Fasano, so we were pleased to stumble across this piece about Sal managing the Lansing Lugnuts, a low Class-A team in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. Not surprisingly, Sal is looked upon quite fondly by his young players who aspire to play in…

  10. The Beard of Truth

    Jul 23, 2010, 1:25 PM EDT

As we noted yesterday, Jayson Werth once again trimmed off his once mythical beard. BeardOfTruth.com appeared in our web browser this afternoon and, to be honest, the room got a little dusty when we watched the tribute. We believe the site may be from the previous time Jayson Werth shaved his beard, but the heartfelt…

  11. The Beard May Not Have Died, But It’s Certainly on Life Support

    Jul 22, 2010, 3:45 PM EDT

Maybe a little Gillette action will turn things around for Jayson Werth and his newly shaven face? It could have helped him in right when the aerodynamic facial structure allowed him to dive for a ball he caught.* *at least the ump called it a catch

  12. The Beard is Gone (A Tribute)

    Mar 30, 2010, 12:02 PM EDT

Even in a spring that lauded the arrival of one Roy Halladay, Jayson Werth's majestic golden beard stole the spotlight and brought smiles to the faces of Phillies fans everywhere (as well as mid-day snacks leftover from breakfast made available with a simple lick of the lips for Werth himself). Sadly, the beard has left…

  13. Jayson Werth’s Beard Has Arrived in Clearwater

    Feb 22, 2010, 10:19 AM EDT

…and it's spectacular.  OK so what are we gonna name this new look? Werth Saves? The Anti-Yankee? Since last year's World Series foe still enforces C. Montgomery Burns-ian rules banning facial hair? Whatever the case, this is hands-down a better look than that chin strip we're accustomed to seeing on J-Werth. He has quickly fulfilled…

  14. The Beard is Gone: Jayson Werth Welcomed to DC, the Soul Patch Returns

    Feb 15, 2010, 12:59 PM EDT

Jayson Werth was at the Wizards-Lakers game last night in DC and — unlike Donovan McNabb — Werth was not greeted with boos. Phillies fans had plenty of time to brace themselves to see the Beard depart this offseason, but it's still going to take a while to really set in. Probably until opening day…

  15. Flyers Graduate From Movember, Donning ZZ Top Beards for Verizon Ad

    Feb 3, 2010, 10:30 AM EDT

Verizon Wireless was at the Wells Fargo Center shooting a new spot yesterday, with a few familiar faces as its stars. Mike Richards, Danny Briere, Claude Giroux, and Braydon Coburn were all adorned in some kind of ZZ Top-inspired playoff beards, which we can see via these great photos shared by Comcast-Spectacor PR guru Ike…

  16. Beard Recognize Beard

    Jan 10, 2010, 2:19 PM EDT

Ken Rosenthal, Jon Heyman, Buster Olney, Tom Verducci, Jayson Stark, etc. All of these guys have some pretty insightful opinions when it comes to predicting where free agents will end up signing, but they all also lack one important thing: a beard. That's why after watching this animation of Kevin Youkilis' Beard of Truth making…

  17. Today in Philly Sports History: The End of the Sal Fasano Era

    Jul 22, 2009, 9:00 AM EDT

The numbers that Sal Fasano put up while serving as the backup backstop for our Philadelphia Phillies were not particularly gaudy. In most cases, few tears would be shed in the City of Brotherly Love over the loss of a player with a .243 batting average, four home runs and a .669 OPS over 50…

  18. Once Again: The Mustache Rides On

    Mar 25, 2009, 6:34 PM EDT

A site for sore eyes if I do say so myself. Previously: The Mustache Rides On [2007] >>Sal Fasano Clings To Role As Credit Card Viking [Big League Stew]>>You Know It's Officially Spring Time When Sal Fasano's Mustache Is In Full Bloom [Deadspin]

  19. Eric Bruntlett’s Beard Did Not Make It To Clearwater

    Feb 20, 2009, 1:32 PM EDT

When we posted the photos of Eric Bruntlett enjoying his offseason on a lake out in California doing some fishing, the consensus around these parts was that his beard was a thing of beauty. To the disappointment of bearded men everywhere, Bruntlett showed up to Clearwater freshly shorn. MLB.com's Todd Zolecki did some fine follow…

  20. If You Grow It, You Will Win

    Feb 13, 2008, 2:41 PM EDT

Enrico says: Today we have a guest post from Mr. Connor McNally who thinks he has found the key to the Phillies success.  I’m not completely sold on the theory but it has certainly grown on me. January 29th, 2008.  Three words… twelve syllables… one meaning – The day the Mets traded three future Sonic…

  21. Eagles D Adopts In-Season Playoff Beard

    Feb 10, 2008, 1:03 PM EDT

With every game from here to the end of the season pretty much being a playoff life-and-death situation, the Eagles defense has taken a page from the NHL tradition of growing playoff beards. Speaking with Comcast SportsNet, Quintin Mikell said that Brian Dawkins came up with the idea of growing out their facial hair as…

  22. The Mustache Ride Is Over

    Jun 14, 2007, 12:03 PM EDT

In a shocking end to the brilliant run of one of the greatest catchers of the past decade, Sal Fasano’s career went black on Wednesday.  Fans of the ‘stache don’t have any idea what will happen next.  Will he be back in the bigs in a week?  Was his career whacked, never to show fans…

  23. Sal and His Pals Return Tonight

    May 18, 2007, 9:34 AM EDT

Get your faux fu manchus ready… Sal Fasano returns to Philly tonight for the first time since he was unceremoniously traded to the Yankees last year. Fasano has now caught on with the Blue Jays (he couldn’t cut it in the Mexican League), who’ll visit CBP to start the season’s first inter-league series. We don’t…

  24. There is Good in the World: Sal’s Pals Live On in Canada

    May 1, 2007, 12:46 AM EDT

Once every couple decades there are events that bring the world together and we like to report on these events every couple of months. Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, the Beatles came to America, Bob Dylan plugged in at Newport, Michael Jackson gave us Black or White, Stallone gave the world Rocky V. Today,…

  25. Breaking News: ‘Stache Back in Bigs

    Apr 25, 2007, 12:47 AM EDT

To be clear, I haven’t seen Sal Fasano in a while, but we’re assuming he has some nice facial hair going.  Blue Jays catcher Greg Zaun has gotten banged up and Toronto has put in a call for backup. Regardless of what type of DL stint is coming for Zaun, the Blue Jays plan on…
