I guess I’m pulling for Shane Victorino in the World Series

The World Series between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals gets underway this evening up at Fenway Park. With the hopes of Philadelphia bringing a trophy back to Citizens Bank Park shelved for at least another year or five, the only logical rooting interest in this matchup is to pull for the Hawaiian guy who once helped bring that amazing parade down Broad Street back in 2008.

I’m pulling for Shane Victorino in the World Series, I guess.

It feels a little weird pulling for any team from Boston. But it’s not like the Sox have done anything all that negative to the Phillies whereas the St. Louis Cardinals still provided the most miserable day at CBP I’ve ever experienced back when Roy Halladay lost game five. I’ll forever remember that awful feeling. So they can go swim in the Charles River for all I care.

Pulling for Shane to rock some skee goggles at some point in the next week or two. How about you?

Much like the Richards/Carter thing, pulling for Victorino is basically a win-win: I get to watch a favored player do well AND see the management of my team have their noses rubbed in their incompetence.

And if he doesn’t win – well, it’s the Red Sox, who cares?

Hearing him regale the fans of Boston in his championship speech is probably going to sting a little, though.

At the end of the day I don’t really care who wins this, but I’m rooting for the Cardinals.

    I’m going Cardinals in 5.

      Ouch! 8-1.
      How ’bout Boston in 4.
In all probability the Cardinals will win two at home.

Gotta admit, pretty cool how the Fenway crowd finishes his intro song when hes up to bat. Wish we’d thought of that. Go Shane, Go Sox, down with Rube

I agree. And I’m OK with the Sox in general because I’m from a part of PA where there’s a mix of Philly and NY team fans, so I sympathized with the BoSox as the enemy of the Yankees. Plus, my hatred of the Mets began the day after they beat the Sox in the ’86 series (squealy-voiced Mets fan girl in my class contributed to that).

    Go Shane. Go Sawx.

Screw Boston! Seriously. Its now in the pro sports by laws that they need to play for a freaking championship in something once a year.

Love Shane, but he had his glory.

I cannot stand the holier than thou Cardinals and their fans. They are the most hateable baseball fans right now and having them get crushed by The Sawx would be delightful. Plus, how can you not root for Victorino?

I can’t root for Shane because it’s Boston. Who are just as insufferable as Cardinals fans and will ensure we hear about it everytime one of their teams play in Philly or we go up there. Nothing against Vic.

I hope Shane gets the clap from some hood rat he cheats on his wife with.
