Is Domonic Brown a Marked Man Tonight?

It’s safe to say we’ve all been getting a kick out of Domonic Brown’s unreal offensive explosion, but you get a sense that these bat-flip celebrations are getting a little out of control. And where was he even running here? That turn was either tractor-trailer wide, or the umpires are now letting him run right into the dugout after home runs.

Hey, it’s not really our position to call him out. Dom is having fun, and who can blame him? His opponents on the other hand, they might decide to police that in their own way.

The Marlins apparently made such overtures on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after the epic bat flip and ridiculous radius on the base paths in question. According to Joe Capozzi, beat writer for the Palm Beach Post, a number of players in the visiting dugout felt Brown went overboard, one of whom went so far as to hint retribution.

With a 16-42 record and a lineup scoring fewer than three runs per game, Miami is threatening some of the all-time marks for futility during the modern era. Those guys are not having a whole lot of fun, so you can understand why they might feel so bitter.

Is it an overreaction? Maybe, but not really until somebody acts on that frustration, say with a fastball right in the No. 9.

Is that something you could honestly see tonight if you’re tuning in for must-see-Dom-TV? I hope not, if for no other reason than it would be one less at bat that could in Brown trotting around the base paths.

Maybe it’s a grudge where an action won’t be carried out until somewhere down the road.

Regardless of whether or not a handful of Marlins players are blowing Brown’s celebration out of proportion, it might behoove the 25 year old to take some of the humility he’s demonstrated in recent interviews and apply it on the diamond. We’re enjoying his enthusiasm almost as much as the fireworks display, but somewhere in the unwritten rules of baseball it says you don’t necessarily want to show up the other team, either.

Let's see if the Fish respond.
