Report: Sixers to Change Up Road and Alternate Jersey Colors

An interesting scoop from the Philadelphia Business Journal today who was at an event with Sixers CEO Adam Aron and learned about some coming changes to the Sixers road and alternate uniform colors. Lyn Kremer explains the change:

I walked away with a sports business scoop. And that is, according to Aron, the 76ers home uniform has always been white, while on the road the team wore red, with blue as an alternate. From this point forward, blue is going to be the official road shirt, with red as the alternate.

Not exactly earth shattering to switch from one existing jersey to another existing jersey, but it will certainly be noticable. And this new ownership loves to talk about the storied tradition of the franchise. This is clearly a step in a different direction, albeit a minor cosmetic one.

Who wants to bet Adam Aron has some research done on fans of teams with blue jerseys getting less angry about awful tweets than fans of teams with red jerseys? For real though, there has to be some data-driven reason for this. I’ll bet you a dollar. Two-to-one odds.

Fine idea … but why cant the Phillies have a “Philadelphia” road and the sixers have a “Phila” alt? … Personally I’d love to see “Philadelphia” on the Eagles Black jersey’s. … then again after writing this I realize that I really have too much time on my hands

Blue jerseys sell better than any other color. It’s why the Hartford Whalers changed from green to blue and shortly after went from one of the least-selling jerseys in the NHL to the highest selling jersey in the NHL. Of course, they left right after that, but that’s unrelated. Pete Karmanos is kinda a scumbag.

Bring back the Iverson era jersey scheme. These retro jerseys suck to the other NBA teams that went retro in the last couple years. There are too many red white and blue teams and the Sixers current jerseys are just plain boring.

The Iverson era color scheme was a joke. Black, gold, red, white, and blue? Why don’t we throw purple and a shade of neon green in there while we’re at it?

The Sixers are red, white and blue because it’s the nation’s colors and actually deals with our team name.

Agree that too many NBA teams have red, white, and blue, but the Clippers and Wizards mean nothing to the United States colors so they can go ahead and change first. And yes, I realize the Wizards are in the nation’s capital, but the colors and the stupid mascot of a Wizard do not go hand-in-hand. Point is, the last thing this team should do is change away from the franchise’s real colors back to that hip hop theme crap.

Please, those black uniforms were a “joke”. I for one prefer the blue jersey over the red, and if you watched all of the Sixer games as I did last year, it always appeared that they played better in blue as opposed to the red. I am delighted with the change to blue, but would have been fine if they continued with the red; but please NEVER, EVER, EVER, bring that black uniform back!

Agree. The only reason people feel nostalgic for those unis was b/c the team was good. They were ugly as sin.

Jerseys aside, those blue t-shirts with the Sixers logo are balling. I need one of those.
