The Phillies Aren’t Very Fun Anymore But They Can Still Be Hilarious

Wednesday night provided even more ugliness from the Philadelphia Phillies. There was plenty to hate about the 11-3 pummeling at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals, and John Mayberry Jr.’s truly awful play on a ball in center field that allowed the bases to clear was one of them. But really, Phillies fans like myself that were sitting at home had to laugh. That play was so bad it was hilarious.

[watch video of Mayberry's sad attempt here]

You can read more about the game and Charlie Manuel’s sad face here if you want. You don’t want.

I fell asleep after the ball bounced off Jimmy’s head. I didn’t think it could have gotten “funnier” than that.

Yeah where are the stills of Jimmy taking one off the head? That was just as funny/depressing.

Not to mention the plunker off of J-Roll’s head.

Meant to mention Delmon’s “run to the ball” as well. Wish I was listening to Franzke/LA when that happened, LA had to skewer him.

Some bad baseball goin’ on. Five runs on those three errors alone. No wonder they’re not being taken seriously by outside analysts, teams, fans, etc. Surely they’re able to play ball being veteran professionals and all. Do they just not care? Are the majority of them hurt? I mean they just look bad out there.

The St. Louis Cardinals are everything the Phillies aren’t. They work counts. They get on base. They wear down pitchers. They don’t make dumbass mistakes on the base paths. They defend with competence.

If there was any remaining shred of belief in your body that this team can compete (and there shouldn’t have been), you deserve a lobotomy if you think they can now. Same goes for the incredibly delusional front office. Please don’t actually be that dumb, Ruben. Please…

Oh, what the hell am I saying? This is the guy who put Michael Martinez and John McDonald on the same roster. Michael Martinez…Michael Martinez…that sniveling little wank, the poster child of the Ruben Amaro era of incompetence. A 30-year-old who can’t play baseball to save his life, and he sticks with the club for 3 years and gets called up 3 times in the 3rd year. Seriously, why the fuck couldn’t they just give Tyson Gillies a cup of coffee? Yeah, he’s an embattled minor leaguer, but at least give him one look at MLB. Could he really be any worse than Mini Mart? Or what about Susdorf (sp?)? Or a homeless guy? Fuck, this FO is awful.
