The Phillies: Woof.

Sep 10, 2013, 11:32 PM EDT

The Phillies lost to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night by the final of 8-2. It was an ugly affair. You can read about that misery here if you’re into that sort of thing or you can watch the above video featuring puppies at a baseball game. It was “Bark at the Park” night in South Philadelphia so fans were invited to bring their canine friends out to Ashburn Alley and watch some awful baseball.

Reports from the park were that the dogs were terrified of the Phillie Phanatic and attacked him in solidarity with their pig friends. The Phanatic treats them like shit.

Darin Ruf finished the night 1-4 with a strikeout.

The actually did a cats in the park night at a few minor league parks this summer. Fans had to keep the cats in their carrying cages but it sure would have been awesome to see them out.

Earlier in the season I was sending tweets towards the Phillies about doing this (I just became a dog owner for the first time last year when I got my husky/shepherd puppy) and I am actually really bummed out I missed this. I am sure they won’t do another one this season but hopefully they advertise it a little more next year if they have one and maybe not limit it to just 50 dogs/owners.

Back during the golden years of 2007-2011, I remember seeing these “bring your dog to the park” promotions going on in opposing parks, and thinking, “Thank God the Phillies don’t have to resort to such silly promotions to get fans to come to the game.” Good times…
