Walter White was almost a Phillies fan but that would have made him too unlikable

We’ve had to own up to Pukemon (1, 2, 3), the guy who threw a snowball at Santa back in the 60s, Susan Finkelstein, Ed Rendell, etc.

But all of those people who considered themselves Phillies fans would have been saints compared to the meth-making madman that is Walter White from AMC’s hit television show “Breaking Bad.”

One of the shows writers recently tweeted out a photo of Cranston/White rocking a Phillies jersey. Philly.com’s Brian McCardle explains:

Thomas Schnauz, one of the writers on the show, tweeted out a photo of Bryan Cranston, the actor who played White, wearing a Phillies jersey from an unused scene from the show’s third season.

The reason they chose not to use it? According to Schnauz, the writers “realized that would make him too unlikable.”

*SPOILERS BELOW*

So, just to recap: poison a young boy named Brock and allow your best coworker’s special lady friend to die in her sleep right in front of you? Not to mention melting countless other human bodies with Hydrofluoric Acid and 18 other heinous acts? Still likable enough.

Wear a Phillies jersey? WAY TOO UNLIKABLE.

And if you were wondering why Cranston/White was rocking a Phillies jersey, Schnauz later explained that he was goofing around on set one day but that Cranston is actually a Phillies fan in real life.

Great show. Schnauz must have been a Mets fan.

When he’s at the game and gets a hot dog, does he ask for a schtickle of mustard?

“And this offends you as a Jew?” “No it offends me as a comedian.”

Yes, Cranston is a Phillies fan. At one point he was in town promoting something (it may have been the series premiere of Breaking Bad, actually) and Jim Jackson interviewed him on the main concourse. I met him and he was incredibly nice.

Yeah, Cranston actually is a Dodgers fan IRL. The jersey was because it was during the 09 World Series, and Cranston was trying to stick it to the Yankees (and prob. the show crew’s Yankees fans).

But go back to the Schnauz tweet. Some Fangraphs writer who’s a big Dodgers fan got all butthurt about Schnauz saying Cranston was a Phillies fan.

This writer also has a background image of a Dodger beating up the Phanatic.

Yeah, and it’s we Philly fans who suck. Remember that.

They can have Cranston… we’ll always have Walter White (aka Heisenberg).
