Your Philadelphia Phillies Are Currently in 2nd Place in the NL East

The Phillies mid-day victory on Wednesday to complete the sweep of the Miami Marlins coupled with the Washington Nationals getting defeated by the New York Mets by a final of 10-1 moves Charlie Manuel’s squad into second place in the NL East.

Here’s an enjoyable tweet from Nats beat writer Mark Zuckerman.

In other Nats’ news, Stephen Strasburg hit the DL this afternoon with a lat strain. He’s eligible to return on June 16th.

Not as good news if you look at the above graphic: the Braves have rattled off five-straight Ws.

At least the Phils are moving in the right direction as of late.

Geez, what has happened to the Nationals this year? Injuries have probably slowed them up, but maybe they weren’t as talented as pundits were giving them credit for.

They definitely aren’t as talented as people thought they were. The bet I made before the season about them not making the playoffs is looking pretty good so far (I know there are still over 100 games left). They had a lot of things go right for them last year with career years from Adam LaRoche, Gio Gonzalez, Jordan Zimmerman, Ian Desmond, Tyler Clippard, and Drew Storen. The only one still playing well out of all of them is Jordan Zimmerman.
