Eagles to pick at 14

Jan 2, 2006, 5:58 AM EDT

With the Eagles season finally being put out of misery, we can start to look ahead to getting healthy and retooling.  Yahoo lists the likely draft order:

Unofficially here is how the top twenty sits for next April’s draft:

1 Houston 2-14 0
2 New Orleans 3-13
3 Tennessee 4-12
4 N.Y. Jets 4 12
5 Green Bay 4 12
6 San Francisco 4 12
7 Oakland 4 12
8 Buffalo 5 11
9 Detroit 5 11
10 Arizona 5 11
11 St. Louis 5 10
12 Cleveland 6 10
13 Baltimore 6 10
14 Philadelphia 6 10

The Eagles have a lot of needs to be filled, but ESPN takes a look at some of the players who they project will be around the 14th pick.  The Eagles will likely employ the "best player available" strategy rather than drafting for a position.  The Eagles website talks about Boston College great Mathias Kiwanuka as a possibility.  A breakdown of some of the players projected to be around 14th after the jump.

A look at Mel Kiper’s big board for picks around 14:

12. Derek Hagan, WR, Arizona State (6-1½, 203) | previous rank: 13
A precise route-runner who will come into the NFL in 2006 with a great understanding of what is expected to be an immediate contributor.

13. Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, Boston College (6-5½, 260) | previous rank: 8
Came back from an injury against Virginia earlier this season. A tremendous talent who needs to polish his pass-rushing skills.

14. Claude Wroten, DT, LSU (6-2, 293) | previous rank: 17
Solid and reliable, Wroten has given LSU consistent play throughout the season.

15. Thomas Howard, LB, UTEP (6-2½, 233) | previous rank: 14
Has come a long way since his days as a walk-on defensive back. UTEP’s best defensive player, Howard is a gifted athlete with 4.4 speed who covers the field from sideline to sideline.

16. Sinorice Moss, WR, Miami (5-8½ 183) | previous rank: 15
Can turn a short completion into a coast-to-coast TD. Not great size, but Moss has great speed and should excel at the next level.

Scouts, Inc. list of possible picks at 14:

12. Vernon Davis Jr. TE Maryland
13. Michael Huff Sr. DE Texas
14. Mathias Kiwanuka Sr. DE B.C.
15. Haloti Ngata Jr. DT Oregon
16. Tambi Hali Sr. DE Penn St
