Eric Lindros Regrets to Inform You…

News out of Broad and Pattison last week was that the Flyers would be inviting all of their former captains to participate in some festivities prior to the preseason game to be held at the Spectrum—including Eric Lindros. When we heard Big E might be coming back for a night, we wondered how the reception would be from the fans who once loved him. When the bitter feud between team and star sent Lindros packing, many fans, despite supporting Lindros through his many ups and downs, largely sided with the organization. However, it'd be hard to give him anything but applause when the footage of his goals, monster hits, and fisticuffs rolled over the jumbotron during a farewell to the Spectrum.

But alas, we may never know, as the Son of Carl has turned down the invitation due to "prior engagements." It's a shame too, we were really hoping to see him back with the other captains. No matter how his career here ended, Lindros was surely one of the greats to ever play in Philly. Taking part in this night of honors might have further engrained that legacy in the Spectrum's nostalgia, rather than the memories of constant injuries that cut his career short and the bitter squables involving doctors and parents.
