J.R. Reed Returns to Eagles Green without the Dreads

Sep 4, 2007, 10:33 AM EDT

For all those sad cut day stories, there’s at least a few good tales to come out of final roster moves.  One of the more surprising that the Birds pulled off over the weekend was the decision to bring back safety and kick returner J.R. Reed.  J.R. showed some promise during the Eagles Superbowl run, but in a bizarre fence hopping injury, put his career in jeopardy.

J.R. bounced around after the nerve damage prevented him from playing again with the Eagles.  He put on a Rams uni and had a short stint in Atlanta as well as most recently training camp with the Giants before getting released.

PhillyBurbs has a nice tale of how excited Reed was when he found out the Birds had picked him up.

Reed said he was driving home to South Jersey
after visiting his fianc [sic] in North Bergen, N.J., when head coach Andy
Reid and General Manager Tom Heckert called.

“(Heckert) told me, "We’re picking you up,’ ”
Reed said. “I was stunned for a minute. It just hit me on the ride back
home. I turned the music up and it was a nice ride home.”

Most of us haven’t seen Reed in quite some time and can’t be sure what he’ll bring.  The one thing that must be true, in my opinion, is that Andy Reid and company think he can help them more than Jeremy Bloom could have.
