Just how long have the 76ers been waiting for a performance
like Jrue Holiday’s effort on Saturday night? So long that it ended a rather
dubious record.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last time an NBA
basketball player scored 35 points or more in a game for Philadelphia was the
immortal Willie Green on April 18, 2007. Green knocked down 14 of his 25 field
goal attempt – including five of seven three-pointers – to key the Sixers in a
122-119 victory over the Toronto Raptors in the season finale. I’m sure we all
remember that one!
In going nearly six years without another individual
experiencing a 35-point game, the 76ers managed to set and increase the longest
streak without such a scoring explosion in NBA history, a drought Holiday finally
snapped at 436 consecutive games. The franchise posted a 202-234 record during that span.

Using 35 points as a benchmark is somewhat trivial, but it does
serve to make it all the more apparent how much the organization has lacked a
superstar since the Allen Iverson days. Thankfully it’s starting to look like
Jrue might be able to help put an end to such bleak times.
