The Phillie Phanatic will live forever, at least it will in the Mascot Hall of Fame. It joined the Phoenix Gorilla and the San Diego Chicken as the first three members in the club. Way to go Phanatic! Espn:
"When I helped create [the Phanatic] in 1978, I had no idea it would
develop like this," Phillies chairman Bill Giles, who introduced the
Phanatic, told MLB.com. "The popularity has gone beyond the ballpark
and into the marketing and tourism of the city of Philadelphia. It is
very surprising and amazing at the same time."
I don't think the Phanatic's antics ever get old. Glen Macnow dedicated a whole show recently in which he thought the Phanatic should be retired. I would whole heartedly disagree. The Phanatic is a Philadelphia institution and I believe it should continue to be.
