U Earned It: Highlights From the Union’s First Playoff Clincher

Oct 16, 2011, 11:56 AM EDT

It was a great feeling leaving PPL Park last night. Even though the Union only tied Toronto FC, 1-1, they won by earning the point they needed to clinch a playoff berth. In their second season, the U have already made it to the MLS's exclusive postseason. That's a tremendous source of pride for the team, from ownership to players, staff, and definitely us fans.

As usual, Sebastien Le Toux led the way, blasting a shot from outside the box to put the Union ahead. TFC would equalize, and the match would end with a pair of 1′s on the board despite some very close opportunities. Faryd Mondragon also returned to action, receiving a great welcome from the River End. Check out the video highlights below, including Peter Nowak’s address of the team afterward.

After winning two MLS Cups, one as a player and one as a coach, you’d think he’d have that celebration down a bit better… Hopefully he’ll get some more practice in the coming weeks.

Congrats to the Union. We’re proud of this season no matter what, but now we only expect you to bring us home a title.
