Here's a new one: Union player not making big impact because he stays up too late

Philadelphia Union fans were excited when the team went out and acquired a Designated Player in Argentinian midfielder Cristian Maidana this offseason. But, for the most part, Maidana's play has been in line with that of the Union squad as a whole this season. That is to say, somewhat disappointing.

Talking with reporters during his weekly press conference today, Union Manager John Hackworth pointed to Maidana's fitness and nutrition as not being up to the standards of an MLS player.

More from Union writer Dave Zeitlin writing for MLSsoccer.com:

But part of the problem is Maidana’s nutrition and sleep habits away from the practice field, Hackworth said. In other words, for him to change the amount of playing time he's getting, he first needs to change his lifestyle.

"It’s a different culture,” Hackworth said. “In Argentina, I think you eat dinner some time between 11:30 and 12:30, 1 [in the morning]. His kids, when they first moved here were bouncing off the walls at 12:30 and 1 [in the morning]. All of these cultural habits have to be adjusted.”

That's a new one.

The Union failed to win a game in the month of April.

Which goes along with the old saying, "April ties and losses bring May ties and probably more losses, maybe some scoring, hopefully."
